Dutch border police foiled 500 illegal entries by road this year

Dutch News

Dutch border police have stopped 497 people from illegally entering the Netherlands in spot checks on road crossings with Germany and Belgium between January and the end of October. In total, over 115,000 people were checked at road borders trying to access the Netherlands, according to figures provided to Dutch News by the Marechaussee on Tuesday. The document, written in English, blames the shortage of housing and a “43% increase in incidents” at reception centres for the need to reintroduce border controls “as a last resort”. Germany said on Monday it had stopped 394 people attempting to enter the country illegally from the Netherlands since it introduced tougher border checks on September 16.
