Western Australia's only potato chip producer says a shortage of hot chips could be looming due to the exploding cost of growing potatoes. "What's happened with the cost of freight across the Nullarbor is that people who would not normally have rung our telephone number were now asking us to supply the market," Mr Piesse said. " 'Perfect storm' for growers Potato farmer Katherine Myers told ABC Radio Melbourne's Breakfast program there was a "perfect storm" for potato farmers. "One of our major processing regions in the central highlands was hit with a very severe hail storm last year, so they're coming off a tough season, going into potentially another tough season."
