Announcement of creation of GMCC missing in State Budget

The Hindu

Even though an announcement on the creation of Greater Mysuru City Corporation was missing in the State Budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Friday, Congress leaders were optimistic that the State government will set in motion the process for its creation soon. Atheeq is expected to visit Mysuru shortly and hold talks with senior officials of Mysuru district administration, including Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy and Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif about the creation of GMCC. Residents of new layouts that had come up in these areas in the last five to ten years are looking forward to the creation of GMCC to find a solution to their civic woes, including repair of roads, UGD, street lighting, and drinking water, particularly after the Mysuru Urban Development Authority handed over these layouts to the urban local bodies. It may be mentioned here that ahead of the Budget, there were major infrastructural demands for Mysuru which included the demand for the creation of GMCC, implementation of Kabini phases 2 and 3, construction of flyover or grade separators at junctions of outer ring road with all major roads entering or exiting Mysuru, and peripheral ring road among others.
