Manchester United eye ex-Liverpool coach Andy O'Boyle as possible new deputy director of football

Former Liverpool coach Andy O'Boyle has emerged as a contender for the deputy director of football role at Manchester United. Ex-Liverpool coach Andy O'Boyle is in the frame to be Man United's deputy football director United feel John Murtough needs help with the sheer size of his role as football director While his background is steeped in sports science, O'Boyle's general and varied experience is understood to have stood him in good stead with the recruitment agency used by United as they assess contenders. From Ballymena, Northern Ireland, O'Boyle had a brief spell at United's academy working with nine and 10-year-olds back in 2006 prior to working with Wrexham's first-team then went on to become head of sports science at Coventry City before joining Liverpool in 2011 where he graduated to first-team fitness coach and worked with England's U21s. Murtough and chief executive Richard Arnold are working through United's managerial candidates over the coming days as they look to reach a decision on their next boss by the end of the month.
