Excise policy case: No bail to Arvind Kejriwal, Rouse Avenue court criticised by Delhi HC
Op IndiaOn 25th June, the Delhi High Court set aside the trial court’s order granting bail to Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, in the alleged Delhi Excise Policy Scam case. Justice Jain stated that the trial court did not consider the material submitted by the ED properly and failed to provide adequate opportunity for the ED to argue its case. Justice Jain said, “The observation by the trial court that voluminous material cannot be considered is unjustified and shows that the trial court has not applied its mind to the material.” On 20th June, a vacation bench of the Trial Court granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal. Justice Jain said, “The trial court should not have given any finding which is opposite to the finding of the High Court.” In its order, the Trial Court had granted bail to Kejriwal on a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh.
