NewsClick was probed by Enforcement Directorate 2 years before China-link report
India TodayThe Enforcement Directorate began investigating New-Delhi based NewsClick over foreign funding in 2021, well before a New York Times investigative report last week revealed the news portal’s alleged Chinese links. The ED Investigation revealed that Prabir Purkayastha, the Director of Newsclick, had known Navielle Roy Singham of Worldwide Media Holdings LLC since 2017. Based on seized digital evidence, it was disclosed that an intricate scheme was designed by Prabir, together with Neville Roy Singham, who is reportedly affiliated with the Communist Party of China. Emails related to China were exchanged between Neville Roy Singham, Prabir Purkayastha, and other associates. Emails between Prabir Purkayastha, Vijay Prasad, Prakash Karat and Neville Roy Singham revolved around updates from China, coverage of CPI in China, news of Anti-China feeling in India, restriction of investment and import from China, recent victory in CPI of local bodies elections in Kerala, praise for the Chinese Government action against ANT & Alibaba by Prakash Karat, tribute by CPI to Mao Zedong, etc.
