
Even the OUTSIDE of packaging on chicken can give you a food bug
Daily MailThere is no doubt that we like to eat chicken: according to the British Poultry Council, around 95 per cent of the population - that's 60.9 million people - eat chicken at least twice a week. Other bugs that have been found in chicken include salmonella and E.coli 'People use the same bags again and again and may put raw poultry in a bag one week, which holds fruit and vegetables the next,' says Dr Hargin. 'People sometimes leave shopping in a car for several hours, which allows the temperature of chilled foods to rise and may encourage the growth of bacteria on raw chicken,' says Dr Hargin. Try and keep a bag for life that's only used for raw meat and foods that will be heated at high temperature 'Low heat can cause bacteria to flourish, so if you put your chicken in too early you can raise your risk of getting food poisoning,' says Dr Hargin. 'If you put the chicken back into the fridge hot, you can bring the temperature of the fridge up to over 10C, meaning bugs may start to proliferate,' says Dr Hargin.
