Andhra man to head UGC committee tasked with designing course on National Security Studies
Ramesh Kanneganti, founder and executive director of Centre for Human Security Studies on Internal Security and External Affairs of India, Hyderabad, has been appointed as the Chairman of an expert committee constituted by the University Grants Commission for the development and delivery of Massive Open Online Course on National Security Studies for the SWAYAM platform. The committee has Professor Harsh Kumar Sinha from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Jammu Sanjeev Jain, Professor Nani Bath from Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh, Aayushi Ketkar from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Professor Prashant Agarwal from University of Allahabad as members and Joint Secretary, UGC Diksha Rajput as Coordinating Officer. “We will adopt a forward-thinking initiative,” says Mr. Kanneganti, explaining that the committee will integrate human security perspectives, ethics, legal frameworks and governance with the key aspects related to maritime, coastal, seaport and cyber security, besides throwing light on emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence. “This major increase, driven by new methods of measuring coastal accretion and erosion, has significantly altered the maritime landscape, with states like Gujarat, Bengal, and Goa showing substantial growth in their shorelines,” he points out, explaining that the primary reason for this dramatic revision is the adoption of a new methodology for measuring India’s coastline, as outlined by the National Maritime Security Coordinator.
