Windsor Castle gets solar panels under King’s green energy drive
The TelegraphSolar panels have been fitted to the roof of Windsor Castle for the first time as part of a royal eco-drive that will also turn the state cars fully electric. The “first roof-mounted photovoltaic panels” have been installed on the Lord Chamberlain’s Upper Store as part of a project to replace its old, leaking lead roof. The “nature-positive” measures, which include replacing gas lanterns with electrical fittings and using sustainable aviation fuel for helicopters, are part of a long-term sustainability initiative by the King. The report also revealed that all staff have undergone diversity training and that the Royal family’s travel costs amounted to £4.2 million, during a period described as having “moments of personal challenge for the family at home”.
