The deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards with a speed of 10 kmph in the evening and lays centered over the same region, about 200 km northeast of Trincomalee, 340 km east-southeast of Nagappattinam, 410 km southeast of Puducherry and 470 km southeast of Chennai, the IMD said today. Continuing to move further northwestwards it is very likely to cross north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram around the morning of 30th November as a depression with a wind speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65kmph,” the IMD said in a post on X. The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai has forecast potential landfall of the weather system as a deep depression between Karaikal and Mamallapuram on Saturday, bringing heavy rainfall over coastal areas.
