Karnataka reports 13% growth in revenue

The State government has managed its finances well and is promoting economic growth, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot said on Sunday, referring to Karnataka achieving a year-on-year growth of 13% with its revenue collection standing at ₹1.81 lakh crore by the end of December. “Karnataka has achieved the distinction of being one of the best developing States, while simultaneously achieving economic growth and social justice equally,” he said during the 76th Republic Day celebrations here on Sunday. Defending the five guarantees, the Governor said the government had successfully implemented them, attracting the attention of the country and “falsified the pessimistic prediction” that these schemes would result in financial crisis and stunt Karnataka’s development. The Governor said: “The government has played a major role in ensuring social justice in the overall development of Karnataka and allocation of wealth besides remaining ahead in providing basic infrastructure facilities such as health, electricity, education and roads.” Karnataka, he said, is fully committed to upholding the practices of the principles of the union and has raised its voice whenever the tenets of federalism have been compromised.
