Fraud of EPIC proportions: Trinamool after poll body clarification on voter IDs

The Trinamool Congress on Sunday launched a blistering attack on the 'neutral' Election Commission, accusing the poll body of being a "BJP's poll-rigging department" after it dismissed allegations of electoral roll manipulation. Accusing the poll panel of enabling large-scale election fraud, the Mamata Banerjee-led party alleged that the BJP attempted to rig elections by assigning duplicate Electors Photo Identity Card numbers to voters across different states. The party's remarks came not so long after the Election Commission rejected West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's allegation of electoral roll manipulation, stating that duplicate Electors Photo Identity Card numbers do not indicate "fake or duplicate voters". Responding to the claims, poll panel issued an official statement and said, "Irrespective of the EPIC number, any elector can cast a vote only at their designated polling station in their respective constituency in their state or union territory where they are enroled in the electoral roll and nowhere else," the poll panel said.
