Farmers oppose railway line for Jindal in Ballari

Farmers in Ballari have opposed the proposed new railway line being laid between Haddinagundu and Halakundi villages in Ballari for Jindal Steel Works by stating that the project will snatch their valuable agricultural land. “The railway track is passing through expensive industrial land/plants like NHB-approved cold storage, tar mixture units, small scale manufacturing units, commercial land and buildings, residential houses and approved layouts, wet and dry agricultural land and temples causing great damage to the people and farmers in South Ballari,” they said in a memorandum underlining the fact that different segments of people like farmers, industrialists and businessmen will be affected by the project. The memorandum also noted how the people of South Ballari have been giving away their land for development projects such as railways and industries since the British period to underline the fact that people in the area are now left with limited land resources for their livelihood. If the new railway line project for Jindal is implemented, we will lose whatever land we are left with.
