Macquarie Dictionary names 'enshittification' as 2024 Word of the Year. But what does it mean?

ABC

"Enshittification" — the gradual deterioration of a service of product — has been named the 2024 Word of the Year by Macquarie Dictionary. Last year, "cozzie livs" — a light-hearted play on the term "cost of living" — was named the Word of the Year by Macquarie Dictionary. The Australian National Dictionary Centre, based at the Australian National University, picked the word 'Colesworth' as its 2024 Word of the Year. 'Colesworth', referring to the perceived duopoly of supermarket retailers Coles and Woolworths, is the Australian National Dictionary Centre's 2024 Word of the Year.
