The people of Kashi told me not to come here till the results: PM Modi
India TodayIt was homecoming for Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday morning, as he reached Varanasi, the constituency that had re-elected him for a second consecutive term as Member of Parliament. As Modi landed at the Police Lines helipad and made his way via road towards Kashi Vishwanath temple, people lined the roads on both sides to catch a glimpse of their MP. In the results declared on May 23, Narendra Modi polled 6,74,664 votes while his closest opponent, Samajwadi Party's Shalini Yadav got 1,95,159 votes. After performing an elaborate puja at the Kashi Vishwanath temple, Modi proceeded towards the Deen Dayal Hastakala Sankul, where he addressed thousands of Bharatiya Janata Party workers and expressed his gratitude towards them for their work during the election campaign. Modi said his party workers had told him he can rest assured about Varanasi and asked him to instead campaign across the country.
