Erode (East) bypoll 2025: BJP MLA Saraswathi bats for ‘One Nation, One Election’

Stating that frequent elections cause inconvenience to the public, Modakkurichi BJP MLA C. Saraswathi called for ‘One Nation, One Election’ in Erode on Wednesday. Addressing the media after casting her vote at a polling station in Periyar Nagar in the Erode Assembly constituency, where a byelection was underway, she said frequent elections disrupted the functioning of the government and was a waste of taxpayers’ money. “Repeated elections create difficulties for everyone, leading to a loss of human resources each time,” she said, adding, “Voters should not be compelled to vote repeatedly.” She emphasised that a single election for the entire country should be made mandatory, as during State Assembly elections, people from other States are forced to travel back to their hometowns. When asked about the BJP’s decision to boycott the byelection to the Erode Assembly constituency, she said, “I have fulfilled my democratic duty by voting.”
