TTD refutes reports of stampede at Annadanam complex at Tirumala, calls it ‘false and misleading’

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has refuted the reports that claimed that a 16-year-old boy who collapsed at the Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba Annaprasadam Bhavanam died in a stampede, describing it as ‘false and misleading’. Venkaiah Chowdary said that a boy identified as Manjunatha hailing from Madikeri in Karnataka, who had come to Tirumala along with his family, collapsed while running on a ramp at MTVAC on February 22. Expressing concern over the telecast of ‘a false narrative’ by a news channel which attributed the death of the boy to a stampede, Mr. Chowdary said that the CCTV footage suggest that the boy collapsed on his own. Exhorting the media to be authentic while reporting any incidents related to the Tirumala temple, Mr. Chowdary said that telecast or publishing false and unverified reports not only hurts the sentiments of devotees but also jeopardises the image of the TTD.
