Settlement reached to release ship that blocked Suez Canal

Al Jazeera

Deal between the Suez Canal Authority and the owners of the Ever Given will be signed on Wednesday in Ismailia, Egypt. The Suez Canal Authority says it has reached an agreement to settle a financial dispute with the owners of a hulking container ship that blocked the crucial waterway in Egypt for nearly a week earlier this year. The head of Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, said last month the parties had agreed on a compensation amount. The canal earned revenue of $3bn in the first six months of 2021, up 8.8 percent compared with the same period last year, despite the Ever Given accident, Rabie said.
