3 Smart Moves for Choosing a Mate

A few weeks ago, I wrote one of the most viewed posts of my blogging career -- long-married people's advice on what not to do in picking a mate. Because, they told me, there's no way to be married happily for decades if your partner won't talk. After talking to the elders, I came up with a list of "Things You May Tell Yourself about Your Partner that Won't Come True." The smart move: List out your partner's personality characteristics or behaviors and ask yourself, "Can I live with them for a lifetime if they never change?"
