What's the political fallout of SC relief to accused in Chhattisgarh 'liquor scam'?
India TodayThe Supreme Court, on April 8, quashed proceedings against the accused in the alleged liquor scam in Chhattisgarh, stating that there was no scheduled offence being made out by the Enforcement Directorate, the central agency probing the matter. In the run-up to the assembly elections last year, the ED had probed an alleged liquor scam, a coal scam and a betting racket linked to the Mahadev app. Former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, who is the Congress candidate from Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat, took to X to remark that the BJP had misused the ED to get it to register a case in the liquor scam just before the assembly elections. All eyes in Chhattisgarh are now on whether and how the top court ruling impacts the outcome of the coal scam case, also unearthed by the ED in a similar manner.
