At least six persons, including two masons and four construction workers, are feared trapped under the debris of an under construction six-storey building that collapsed in the heart of the temple town of Bhadrachalam in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Wednesday. Shell shocked by the incident, several residents of the area alleged that one Sripathi embarked on construction of the multi-storey building on an old basement in flagrant violation of the building regulations in Bhadrachalam major gram panchayat. They accused him of collecting funds in the name of ‘Sripathi Seva Trust’ for constructing the multi-storey building abutting a small temple dedicated to goddess Bhavani. A local Adivasi leader deplored the alleged apathy of the Gram Panchayat officials concerned in preventing the construction of the ‘unauthorised’ multi-storey building in Bhadrachalam in gross violation of the laws governing the Agency areas.
