Telegraph investigation: Google search exposes sensitive files and emails from inside the government and the NHS
Hundreds of sensitive Cabinet Office, Home Office and NHS documents have been accidentally leaked online, prompting MPs to demand an inquiry into the “egregious errors”. Cyber security experts said the leaks were a “clear failure of common, basic security” and contained exactly what criminals look for when trying to infiltrate organisations. Darren Jones MP, a Labour member of the science and technology select committee, said: “Who needs Russian hackers when you can just Google and find out the Government’s inner workings?” Tom Brake, a Lib Dem MP who sits on the home affairs select committee, said: “A formal inquiry must be launched immediately.” The leaks originate from an online tool called Trello. A Cabinet Office spokesman said: “We take data protection very seriously, and impress upon all government departments to exercise best practice and implement suitable measures to ensure data is secure when using platforms such as Trello boards.”
