Climate change, biodiversity loss and water insecurity pose 'pressing risks' to Britain's food security, a major Whitehall report has warned. The release of the food security report coincided with fresh protests by farmers in Westminster about measures announced in Chancellor Rachel Reeves' Budget Sir Keir Starmer has been blasted by farmers after Labour announced they will have to pay a 20 per cent rate of inheritance tax on land and property they inherit worth more than £1million Critics claim the move could wipe out family-run farms with tight margins, as they will be forced to sell up in order to pay death duties The report also detailed how one in 10 households in the UK don't have enough food in the wake of the cost-of-living crisis Tory shadow environment secretary Victoria Atkins said: 'The UK Food Security Report was introduced by a Conservative government because – unlike Labour – we get that food security is national security. this Labour Government releases a 464-page report on food security which doesn't contain single mention of the family farm tax.' 'The report also highlights that our food security is being increasingly threatened by extreme weather events and damage to the natural world which are affecting harvests in both the UK and further afield,' he said.
