According to Variety, a new chapter in the franchise is in the works at Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss are reportedly set to reprise their respective roles as Neo and Trinity, while Lana Wachowski, one of the two directors of the original trilogy, will write and direct the sequel. Warner Bros Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich told Variety: “We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana.” The first Matrix film, also starring Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, was released 20 years ago, in 1999. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.” Support free-thinking journalism and attend Independent events The Independent has contacted Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures for comment.
