Among Us was first released in 2018, but has undergone a surge in popularity in recent months after a number of prominent Twitch streamers began playing the game. Data from the games distribution website Steam reveals that Among Us grew from having an average of 4.5 PC users logged on at any one time in January 2019, to 107,000 in the past month. A statement on the game’s website reads: “The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content.” “However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level.” They added that they have “decided to cancel Among Us 2” and will be putting “all focus” into improving the first game.
