Breaking: Justices Hemant Gupta, R Subhash Reddy, M R Shah and Ajay Rastogi Sworn In As SC Judges,
Four new judges— Justices Hemant Gupta, R Subhash Reddy, M R Shah and Ajay Rastogi were sworn in as Supreme Court Judges today at 10:30 am in the Chief Justice’s Court, raising the total number of judges to 28, as against the sanctioned strength of 31 judges.The Centre on Thursday accepted the collegium recommendation for the elevation of four Judges as SC judges. Four new judges— Justices Hemant Gupta, R Subhash Reddy, M R Shah and Ajay Rastogi were sworn in as Supreme Court Judges today at 10:30 am in the Chief Justice’s Court, raising the total number of judges to 28, as against the sanctioned strength of 31 judges. The President has issued a notification appointing Justices Hemant Gupta, R Subhash Reddy, M R Shah and Ajay Rastogi, who are the Chief Justices of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Patna and Tripura High Courts respectively, as Supreme Court judges. On October 30, the Collegium comprising CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan B Lokur, Justice Kurian Joseph, Justice A K Sikri and Justice S A Bobde had recommended that judges are "are more deserving and suitable in all respects than other Chief Justices and senior puisne Judges of High Courts, for being appointed as Judges of the Supreme Court of India" The Collegium Resolution stated that it has taken into consideration combined seniority on all-India basis of Chief Justices and senior puisne Judges of High Courts, apart from their merit and integrity.
