Google unveils Ask for Me, a new AI feature that can make calls to local businesses on your behalf

Google is testing an Ask for Me feature to boost its AI base. In a post on X, Google product lead Rose Yao explained that the feature is powered by Duplex, an AI tool that enables tasks like making reservations or booking appointments over the phone. Yao also said, “You might hit a waitlist, since the capacity is limited during the experiment.” Google’s Ask for Me: How does it work? If you're enrolled in Search Labs, you can access the new feature by searching for local services like "oil change" or "nail salons nearby." The company explains, “using its own browser, it can look at a webpage and interact with it by typing, clicking, and scrolling.” Interestingly, this is OpenAI’s first AI agent that can independently perform tasks.
