Live LawThe President of India promulgated on Wednesday the "Salary, Allowances & Pension of Members of Parliament Ordinance 2020" to reduce salary payable to Members of Parliament by 30% for one year with effect from April 1, 2020, to raise resources to prevent spread of COVID-19.The Ordinance inserts sub-section in Section 3A of the "Salary, Allowances & Pension of Members. The Ordinance inserts sub-section in Section 3A of the "Salary, Allowances & Pension of Members of Parliament Act 1954" to state : "Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section, the salary payable to Members of Parliament under sub-section shall be reduced by thirty percent for a period of one year commencing from the 1st April 2020 to meet the exigencies arising out of Corona Virus pandemic". In 2018, the Salary, Allowances & Pension of Members of Parliament Act 1954 was amended to provide 100% hike in the salaries of MPs.
