India TodayPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said he was eagerly awaiting his visit to Jammu and Kashmir's Sonamarg for the inauguration of Z-Morh Tunnel, which will provide an all-weather link between Kashmir and Ladakh, on January 13. PM Modi's upcoming visit to Sonamarg comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, a politician from the National Conference, an INDIA bloc ally, has been maintaining a conciliatory tone towards the central government, particularly on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood. Earlier today, Abdullah visited Sonamarg to review the preparations for PM Modi's visit on Monday and said the opening of the tunnel will boost tourism and reduce the travel time from Srinagar to Kargil and Leh. PM Modi's upcoming visit to Sonamarg comes at a time when Abdullah has got assurances from the central government that Jammu and Kashmir's statehood would be restored at an appropriate time.
