Jio DTH effect: Airtel Digital TV may rule DTH market with 61 per cent share if it merges with Dish TV

Since Reliance launched Jio in 2016, the telecom company has been constantly trying to disrupt the industry with aggressive pricing and launches. And as usual, arch-rival Airtel has come up with another strategy to offset the Jio DTH’s arrival in the market by exploring opportunities for a merger. In a recent report from ET Telecom, it is said that Bharti Airtel has initiated talks with Dish TV to merge the latter under its Airtel Digital TV service. Airtel holds a market share of 24 per cent in the DTH space while Dish TV rules with a share of 37 per cent. The merger is aimed to fight Jio’s DTH service that’s expected to come with an aggressive pricing model.
