SC to hear plea challenging Calcutta HC’s order on central forces deployment

The Supreme Court will hear plea challenging the Calcutta High Court's order regarding the deployment of central forces in panchayat elections on 20 June. The State Election Commission and the the Bengal government had moved to SC in order to challenge the Calcutta High Court's order regarding the deployment of central forces. She said that the West Bengal state election commission has challenged Calcutta HC's order dated June 13 and June 15. On 13 June, Calcutta High Court ordered requisition and deployment of central forces for the July 8 West Bengal panchayat polls but refused to consider the plea for extending the time for filing of nominations and left it to the discretion of State Election Commission.
