Maha education minister asks UGC to cancel final year varsity exams

After several protests from students, teachers and parents, Maharashtra Minister of Higher and Technical Education Uday Samant said he has requested the University Grants Commission to cancel the final semester varsity examinations in view of the situation arising out of the coronavirus outbreak. Students from several universities in Maharashtra had been vocal about the issue and wanted the exams to be cancelled due to safety issues since the guidelines for the conduction of final year exams has been released by UGC. "I have written to the UGC to cancel the final semester exams and give marks to students as per gradation system, Samant said while interacting with students through video conference. Students from Mumbai University had started an online petition which demanded the state government and the UGC to cancel the exams for final year students in view of the pandemic, as the examinations for college students from all other semesters had been cancelled.
