Hostel contract workers withdraw strike after negotiation with DC

The Hindu

Contract workers employed in hostels managed by the Departments of Social Welfare, Minority Welfare, and Backward Classes Welfare called off their strike on Friday following successful negotiations with Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum. Over 1,000 contract workers, including cooks, watchmen, assistants, and Group D employees, had been on strike, demanding higher wages and improved working conditions. Their key demands included a minimum monthly wage of ₹30,000 a month and the establishment of a cooperative society to supply contract labourers to government departments, similar to the model implemented by the Bidar administration. Prominent attendees at the meeting included Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Bhanwar Singh Meena, Additional Director of Social Welfare M. Allabaksh, District Minority Welfare Officer Javid Karangi, and workers’ representative Bhimashetti Empalli.
