Mumbai bus driver, conductor arrested for ferrying children while intoxicated
India TodayThe driver and conductor of a school bus ferrying around 50 children on a school picnic were arrested in Mumbai on Tuesday after they were found to be under the influence of alcohol. According to Andheri police, two traffic police constables from Satar division, Pawar and Mahale, stopped the bus, which was coming from Saki Naka, as it was being driven dangerously. Deputy Commissioner of Police Mitesh Ghatte said, “Constables Pawar and Mahale saw the bus near Western Express Highway. Hence, an accident was averted by the two constables who were appreciated by senior police officials.” This comes just a week after seven people were killed when a Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking bus lost control and rammed pedestrians and vehicles in Mumbai’s Kurla area on December 9.
