How coach Jeff Hafley went from New Jersey turnpike scofflaw to a ‘rising star’ for Ohio State

New York Times

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jeff Hafley emerged from his coach’s office and walked through a spacious hallway at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center last week, his past and present in perfect lockstep. “In my opinion, it’s the best college job in America,” Hafley said of Ohio State. “When players first meet Jeff it’s like ‘who is this guy?’” said Green Bay defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, who coached with Hafley in Cleveland. “He’s as good a recruiter as I have been around.” Hired by Ohio State in January, Hafley immediately prevented one of Day’s prize recruits from flipping. “People from New Jersey don’t like to leave New Jersey,” Hafley said.
