Prithviraj Sukumaran on directing Mohanlal: He opened my eyes

Prithviraj Sukumaran has directed the upcoming Mohanlal film L2: Empuraan, the second film in the Lucifer universe. Talking about how Mohanlal changed his perspective on the actor-director relationship, Prithviraj said, “He really opened my eyes about how I should be with my directors.” Prithviraj recalled that Mohanlal would walk up to him every morning on set and ask, “So what should I do?” The filmmaker initially assumed the senior actor wanted a scene breakdown. “I said, ‘This is a shot, you know, there's a track coming from left to right, and you're sitting there,’” Prithviraj remembered telling Mohanlal. But Mohanlal, who had already read the scene, again asked, “Okay, but what should I do?” That was when Prithviraj realised that Mohanlal wanted to understand his director’s expectations, "What is the director's vision?" Of course, you bring in your interpretation, your layer to it.” Adding that a lot of unlearning happened during the making of Empuraan, Prithviraj said, “Especially since I’ve started directing, I’ve realised I need to switch off the technician in me when I’m acting.
