Jurgen Klopp explains Virgil van Dijk's half-time substitution in Liverpool's embarrassing defeat at Brentford

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp stated that Virgil van Dijk "felt a little bit his muscle" as the reason behind taking the defender off in the Reds' 1-3 defeat at Brentford. Klopp's side suffered its first defeat in five league matches and first against Brentford since 1938 on Monday, leaving Liverpool in sixth place in the standings with 28 points from 17 matches. "We conceded the first goal in a moment when we should already have been 2-0 up, with misses from Darwin and Kostas pretty much alone in front of the goal," said the Liverpool coach. Oxlade-Chamberlain tried to keep Liverpool's hopes alive when he headed in a fizzing cross from Trent Alexander Arnold but Bryan Mbeumo secured all three points for Brentford in the 84th minute.
