While it might be the earliest lockdown called by any Pacific nation in response to a COVID-19 case, Tonga's government has faced criticism for responding too slowly. Ms Guttennbeil-Likiliki blamed Tonga's upcoming national election, on November 18, for the mixed messaging, when authorities originally denied rumours about the positive case that were circulating earlier last week.
