DDA approves major overhaul in slum redevelopment policy

The Delhi Development Authority on Thursday approved a slew of major changes in its policy for the redevelopment of slums under its ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahin Makan’ scheme, giving a boost to the in-situ rehabilitation of their residents. The move came a day after Mr. Saxena ordered the DDA to dispose of within a month pending applications for the registration of properties in unauthorised colonies under the Centre’s flagship Pradhan Mantri — Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana. According to officials, the modification in the policy will ensure more number of dwelling units for slum dwellers and additional commercial spaces to make redevelopment projects financially viable for developers. A statement issued by the civic agency said the changes in terms of density relaxation, revised apportionment of land area for remunerative and non-remunerative components, floor area ratio, clubbing of clusters for redevelopment spread across a radius of 5 km etc.
