Driver charged after two pedestrians killed in alleged hit-and-run in Port Augusta West

Police have charged the driver of a car that allegedly hit and killed a man and a woman in South Australia's north. The man has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a crash and one count of aggravated driving without due care. Officers say the pedestrians were hit by a grey or silver Toyota Kluger SUV on Caroona Road in Port Augusta West about 2:20am. It is unclear whether the two people, a 50-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, both of Port Augusta West, were deliberately hit. Police said the driver of the four-wheel drive attended the Port Augusta police station about midday.
