Relatives protest delays in recovery of bodies of mudslide victims in Tamil Nadu

India Today

Relatives of seven individuals who died in a mudslide triggered by heavy rain caused by Cyclone Fengal in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvannamalai district have accused authorities of slow progress in recovering the bodies. The victims, Rajkumar, his wife Meena, their two children Gowtham and Iniya, and three children of Rajkumar's brother-in-law-Ramya, Vinodhini, and Maha - were trapped when a mudslide engulfed their home in VOC Nagar on Sunday. Efforts by the National Disaster Response Force and local rescue teams have been hampered by treacherous terrain and persistent heavy rainfall. However, the slow progress in recovery efforts has fuelled frustration among residents, who fear for their safety amid ongoing rains and the possibility of further landslides.
