IIT Kanpur cancels UP cop's PhD programme amid probe into rape case

The IIT Kanpur has cancelled the PhD programme of Uttar Pradesh Police official Mohammad Mohsin Khan, who is facing charges of sexually exploiting an IIT research scholar. Confirming the development, IIT Kanpur's Director Dr Manindra Agrawal said, "Mohammad Mohsin Khan's PhD programme has been terminated after approval by the DGP UP's office." According to the complaint details, Khan, a 2013-batch Provincial Police Services officer, allegedly developed a relationship with the research scholar and promised to marry her after divorcing his wife. Meanwhile, Kanpur Police's Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abhishek Kumar Pandey, while commenting on the probe, said, "Khan has been summoned by the police to record his statement in the case.
