PETER HITCHENS: If the police have nothing to hide on Letby briefing, why not tell me what happened?
Cheshire Police have just splatted themselves in the face with a large custard pie. They were furious because I had criticised a secret briefing Cheshire Police and the Crown Prosecution Service gave to selected media just before Ms Letby's first trial. I think many of the people who put Lucy Letby in prison are starting to have serious doubts about her guilt, writes Peter Hitchens Sir David Davis MP alleged in the Commons that key evidence, helpful to Ms Letby's case, is being withheld by the police and the CPS It is also absurd to say that a press briefing was secret. Then last Wednesday, Cheshire Police's Data Protection Adviser told me: 'Attendees were required to sign a disclaimer form agreeing to adhere to specific reporting conditions as such information was not placed in the public domain.' In the same week, Sir David Davis MP alleged in the Commons that key evidence, helpful to Ms Letby's case, is being withheld by the police and the CPS.
