USA’s Gray loses 76kg final to Germany’s Rotter-Focken

CHIBA, Japan — American wrestler Adeline Gray fell short of the career-defining moment she sought for so long. Germany’s Aline Rotter-Focken beat her 7-3 Monday night in the 76-kilogram women’s freestyle wrestling final. She was confident she would join Helen Maroulis as the only two U.S. women’s wrestling Olympic gold medalists. Cuba’s Mijain Lopez became the first man to win four Olympic gold medals in wrestling when he defeated Georgia’s Iakobi Kajaia 5-0 in the Greco-Roman 130-kilogram final. Lopez defeated Turkey’s Riza Kayaalp 2-0 in the semifinals on Sunday in a rematch of the 2016 gold medal match.
