Ease of doing business to be focus of Local Self Government Reforms Commission
The HinduEase of doing business will be the focus of the Local Self Government Reforms Commission recently constituted by the State government to revise laws, rules, and directives governing the functioning of local bodies in the State. In keeping with the push towards more online delivery of services, the commission has been asked to provide suggestions to ensure that people can access all the possible services without personally visiting government offices. As part of a step in this direction, the Local-Self Government department will in April begin a wider rollout in panchayats of the K-Smart application to make available services of local self-government bodies digitally over a uniform platform. However, the commission’s activities are likely to be delayed as the Central Administrative Tribunal had last week directed the State government to allow senior IAS officer B. Ashok, who was deputed as the commission chairperson, to continue in his present post as Principal Secretary, Agriculture, and Agricultural Production Commissioner.
