Australians rule the pool, bag three gold

Australia took charge of proceedings at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Aquatics Complex, winning three of the five gold on offer and breaking two Commonwealth Games records in the process. HT Image Canada won a medal while South Africa’s Chad Le Clos broke the Commonwealth Games record in men’s 200m butterfly to win gold. India had a mixed day at office, failing to qualify for any of the individual categories but the men’s 4X100m relay team qualified for the final for the first time in Games history. Australian Alicia Coutts set the first Commonwealth Games record of the day when she outdid compatriot Jane Seebohm to the women’s 200m individual medley gold, bettering Stephanie Rice’s Melbourne Games mark of 2.12.90 min by more than three seconds.
