Karnataka Milk Federation proposes Rs 5 hike, cut in quantity

The Karnataka Milk Federation has proposed a price hike of Rs 5 per litre for Nandini milk, which will come into effect after the state budget on March 7, subject to government approval. In 2024, it implemented a Rs 2 price increase per packet but added 50 ml extra milk per litre, which it claimed did not constitute a price hike. Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, slammed the state government over the proposed milk price hike, accusing it of financial mismanagement. “For this government, there are no other options left except for raising prices, because they don’t know how to manage the budget,” he said, adding that there has been “no development in Karnataka” and that “people are crying every day, but the government is not bothered.” Taking a swipe at the multiple price hikes, he remarked, “Only milk items were left, but those prices have also been increased now.
