The Hindu

Andhra Pradesh Upa-Lokayukta P. Rajani has ordered the Director of Treasuries and Accounts to issue instructions to all the sub-treasury officers to minimise delays in processing pension-related matters. Ms. Rajani has also directed that State-level helplines be established for redressing pension-related grievances and display them at all the Sub-Treasury Offices for providing easy access to the pensioners and family pensioners to get their issues sorted out. Ms. Rajani was dealing with a suo moto complaint against corruption at the STOs in Kurnool and Nandyal on February 7, wherein public servants in the Treasury Department were allegedly harassing retired government employees for commissions up to 4% for processing pension / conversion of family pension, pension arrears, commutation, gratuity and other financial entitlements. In spite of receiving pension payment orders from the Accountant General / State Audit Offices, the officers were allegedly deliberately delaying the process for extracting bribes from the retired employees / family pensioners.
