For Some Reason Angry Birds Is Going to Be a Movie
Somehow, for some reason, Angry Birds is going to be a movie. The film is being produced and financed by Rovio Entertainment, which releases the Angry Birds mobile app and, according to an announcement today, will be distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment and is scheduled to hit theaters in 2016. Unsurprisingly, the Angry Birds movie won't be live-action, but it will be an animated 3-D feature, so there's a good chance the flick will feature angry fowl being ejected from slingshots at your face. No word yet on how the creatives behind the movie plant to turn birds-flying-at-pigs into a full-length feature, but Rovio recently launched an animated series -- Angry Birds Toons -- so presumably there are more tales to tell in the world of Angry Birds, which has been downloaded some 1.7 billion times. "Every studio in town would love to add Angry Birds to their slate," Sony chairman and CEO Michael Lynton and co-chairman Amy Pascal said in a statement.
