Pakistan failed at capturing Kargil but India needs to be wary of its hidden game to avenge 1971 | OPINION

It was 23 years back when the Kargil War was in its full swing, having started on May 3, 1999, and continued till July 26, 1999, with India emerging victorious. In 1947-48, while the whole of J&K became a part of India after instrument of accession was signed by Maharaja Hari Singh on October 26, 1947, the abrupt end of the 1947-48 war led to almost 45 per cent area of J&K being with Pakistan, including what was ceded to China in 1963. When 13 days of war of 1971 ended on December 16, 1971, the two countries signed the Simla agreement on August 2, 1972, during which India agreed to repatriate all the prisoners of war but it could not happen as Pakistan did not show any interest in getting these prisoners back. India needs to come out of its altercation matrix and mathematical response option, at least in the case of weaker adversaries, in this case Pakistan, when the country faces new emerging threats from China. Hope the decision-makers will see the hidden game of Pakistan and review the strategy as India commemorates Kargil Vijay Diwas.
